Sports Correspondent Portfolio

I loved working away assignments where I traveled via car, often long distances to cover University of Hawai'i athletics as both a photographer and writer. I conducted post-game interviews, took photographs during the game and made social media posts. Due to my knowledge of sports, I am able to follow the action and anticipate the flow of play for decisive shots. I am also able to understand the storylines that are developing during a match while also keeping an eye on the viewfinder. Road coverage for the publication I was working for was non-existent prior to my arrival on staff and so I was able to develop a rapport with many of the coaches and sports information offices that I interacted with. Most of the photographs that you see were published on the Ka Leo website, but if there is no designation to a publication, they were part of special freelance projects I did. The quality of my photographs could have been better if I were using more expensive equipment, but my skills in capturing the "decisive moment" as coined by Henri-Cartier Bresson, are on display in these photos.
