Sports Correspondent Covering University of Hawai'i Athletics/Labor Beat for Civil Beat

Welcome to my portfolio. Here you will find some of the work I did for Ka Leo, the student newspaper for the University of Hawai'i, which has over 100 years of publication. I covered some amazing athletes during my time with Ka Leo. The athletics program for the university has a rich history and since there are no professional NFL, NBA, or MLB teams Hawai'i, the University of Hawai'i is the highest level of athletics in the state. Although I covered many home games, I mainly operated as the mainland correspondent for Ka Leo, providing extensive sports coverage for away games upon my arrival on staff. By developing relationships with the sports information office, I was granted special access for a photography project which you can check out below.

While in Hawai'i I covered the following sports: football, basketball, softball, baseball, volleyball. Unfortunately, the school did not have a soccer team (my favorite sport) but at my junior college alma mater Mt. SAC on top of covering all the aforementioned sports I was also able to cover my favorite sport, futbol. The wide range of sports knowledge that I have is due to my experience as a player in most of the popular sports. Now I enjoy covering the games from the sidelines and watching athletes compete.

As a writer I have focused on sports writing, but I also have experience covering politics, news, crime and arts and entertainment. My portfolio also contains some work I did for CivilBeat, a non-profit news organization based in Hawai'i that focuses on local issues.
